Paul Layzell (Layzell Bros): Masterclass £25

Aimed at illustrators and animators with an interest in storytelling, this Masterclass with Paul Layzell from Layzell Bros will run through the basics of creating an animatic, bringing your ideas to life on screen. Create your own animatic short by looking at story structure basics, camera shots and moves, drawing and editing. The day will culminate in pitching your own storyboard to the rest of the group to gain valuable feedback! Please note: participants will be required to bring a laptop/drawing tablet with Adobe Photoshop, Bridge, Premier or Toon Boom Storyboard Pro to take part in the editing section of the workshop, along with headphones.

Emily Hughes: Masterclass £20

Join children’s book author and illustrator Emily Hughes in a day-long Masterclass exploring layered meanings and perspectives through storytelling. Through dimensions, colour and choice symbolic elements, learn to create sequential images that use layers to create complexity within a narrative. Emily Hughes is an author and illustrator whose picture books have received international recognition. Wild was published by Flying Eye books in 2013, and her book Nana shaped like a Banana came second in the 2012 Macmillan Prize for Childrens’ Picture Books.

Bianca Bagnarelli: Masterclass £20

Join Italian-French artist, author, illustrator and cartoonist Bianca Bagnarelli in our third Masterclass of the season and gain an in depth understanding of the processes behind her work. Create a single-page comic over the course of the day and develop your composition, discovering how strongly this is tied to the story being told. Bianca Bagnarelli is the author of short graphic novel Fish by Nobrow, winning the Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators for best short story in 2015. She founded Delebile in 2010 – a small independent label that publishes short comic stories by italian and foreign artists
